Helpful Advice: Coating Systems

The primary purpose of good surface preparation and applied wet spray or powder coat systems on to structural steelwork or architectural metalwork is to provide corrosion protection.

A secondary purpose is to provide a colour and texture which helps aesthetically highlight the intricate or ornate design of structural steel or architectural metalwork.

Wet spray coatings have advantages in that there no limits to the size of structure that can be coated. Periodic recoating is possible when required.

Powder coating provides an excellent tough plastic-like barrier that needs to be cured in an oven. Production run items such as newel posts and railings are more suited to this process.

Specialist coatings, such as intumescent, for fire protection, are now more commonly specified and used on building projects to keep exposed steel protected from fire for up to two hours.

Through long and close relationships with our finishing partners we can supply a full written specification to suit the environment and aesthetics of your own project.
