Taken from below the helical, the central spine supporting the stair is clearly visible. The single spine, a fabricated box section made in our workshop, incorporates shaped steel arms offering support to timber treads and landings. Additional support for the main stair structure was provided by the use of tensioned stainless steel wires suspended above the helical from roof level. The stairs steel balustrade incorporated a rebated timber handrail. The structure of the helical was primed and given its initial paint treatment off-site. To ensure that the best surface finish could be achieved the top coat was applied once the helical was installed.
