Project: Eastbourne Terrace, Paddington, London

40 Eastbourne Terrace is a prominent office building, directly opposite London’s Paddington Station which has been completely refurbished to provide 76000 sq ft of office space. The new glass frontage of the building provides a dramatic view of the helical staircase rising through five floors from the basement to the top floor.

What we did: The Results

The helical stair was manufactured by Hubbard as a steel spine with welded steel treads and risers complete with oak capping. The painted mild steel balustrade is topped by stainless steel handrail.

The staircase was fully fabricated at Hubbard’s Norwich works in individual sections spanning floor to floor. Sections were then transported to site, crane lifted and bolted to steel landing sections which had been previously fitted to the slab. The end result is a visually stunning piece of architectural construction that will impact on the viewer. This is typical of the work Hubbard as provided on many projects in recent years.

Hubbard also supplied the roof balustrade in mild steel with glass infill and carried out extensive modifications to the existing core staircases, raising the height of the balustrade and handrails to meet current regulations.
